About me ... who I am, what I can do and what I want to do.
Hi, my name is Jérôme Gravel-Niquet and I'm a 21-year-old passionate web developer. I've been doing this since I was 13 years old and I intend to still be doing it for a long time. Throughout my career, the creativity and the need to perfect my skills have been fueled by my inextinguishable curiosity. I've touched a myriad of different fields of work in the last few years, from web design to computer troubleshooting, fiddling with many different programming languages and the ever-changing trends of user interfaces design.
Learning has been the major building block of my life. I'm self-taught and I exhibit quite some success with my own learning methods. I'm going to be completely honest: I don't have any academic education in computer related fields (apart from various courses scattered here and there in high school and college.) Hopefully, my work speaks for itself when it comes to skills. I've only learned from experimentation. Over the years, I have produced over 400 mock-ups/designs/code snippets, each one of these was better than the previous. The aggregation of all my work to this day represents the vast knowledge I possess in web development and moreover, the Internet. As I read each day 150+ feeds, few dozens of people on twitter and books on web development, I'm keeping myself on the cutting-edge of web technologies.
As of my career plans, I have many. I'm mainly interested in analyzing, problem solving and research in the web development field, but I also don't mind doing more basic work such as UI design and programming if it can lead me to a better position. Working hard and surpassing my work everyday are two of my qualities, I'm very hard on myself, I like it when it's perfect. All I need is a motivating job and passionate people to work with, I expect no less from others than meeting my own high standards.
Experience ... where I worked before and my role in the organizations.

User Experience Designer at iWeb Technologies Inc.
In charge of the user experience: researching, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, user testing, designing and integrating. Near the end, I've been asked to try an Agile Project Manager position, during this endeavour, I learned quite a bit about agile methodologies.

Featured Work ... some of my work.
-
iWeb.com
My role on this project was to revamp the current website design. I made the initial design templates and all the graphic work. I'm not particularly proud of this design, graphic-wise, I've done better and I'll do better in the future.
-
Flossedtoday.com
In charge of the design, I went with a "cute" little website. Works on the iPhone and in any browser.
-
Colektivo.com
I'm on the team building this web application and I had to design a quick teaser to explain the concept briefly and gather emails for when we are ready to launch and beta test the product.

Cent Papiers
We've recently taken over this website and I have started revamping it. I'm proud of this design and therefore I am showing it even if it's a work in progress. I will be developing all the citizen media platform's front-end and back-end. It's basically an experiment in newspaper design. I didn't touch Photoshop, I only did a few pen and paper wireframes then straight to HTML/CSS.
-
iWeb Ordering System
On this project, I made a competitive analysis of other shopping carts throughout the web and followed my own recommendations when I created the design. Initially, I was also the one who integrated the design in valid XHTML/CSS.

My site's history
A few live sites, a few prototypes that never saw the light of day...

VW Estrie
Soon to come online, I built this website for a Volkswagen dealership. Simple and effective design. This was made a few years ago.
